How to Do It

Children benefit when the important adults in their lives communicate with one another. Teachers see children in the classroom setting, while families have insight into their child's routines, interests, and behavior at home.

Keeping that communication open allows teachers and families to share what is working, celebrate progress, and work together when a child needs additional support.

Ways to strengthen the partnership:

  • Share observations and ask families what they are seeing at home.
  • Communicate progress as well as concerns.
  • Ask families what strategies work well for their child.
  • Use consistent language and approaches when possible.
  • Work together on strategies that can be used both at home and in the classroom.
