Why This Matters

Adequate sleep supports attention, memory, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. Well-rested children are often better able to focus, manage frustrations, and enjoy their day at school.

Here's What to Do

About one to two weeks before school begins, move bedtime earlier by 15 to 20 minutes every few nights until you've reached your school-year schedule.

Create a calming bedtime routine by:

  • Turning off screens at least 30–60 minutes before bed.
  • Reading a favorite story together.
  • Talking about something positive that happened during the day.
  • Keeping bedtime and wake-up times consistent, even on weekends when possible.

A predictable bedtime routine helps children know what to expect and makes falling asleep easier.
