When children can complete simple daily tasks independently, they develop problem-solving skills, confidence, and a sense of responsibility. Teachers are also able to spend more time supporting learning when children can manage basic routines.
Here's What to Do
Choose one or two self-help skills to practice each day.
Encourage your child to:
- Put on and zip their jacket.
- Wash and dry their hands independently.
- Open snack containers and water bottles.
- Put away toys when finished.
- Carry and unpack their backpack.
- Ask for help politely when needed.
Remember that independence takes practice. Allow extra time, offer encouragement, and celebrate effort rather than expecting perfection.
