Family engagement starts with belonging. Think about whether every family sees themselves reflected and respected in your classroom and communication.
Learn about families' cultures, languages, traditions, and preferences without making assumptions. Whenever possible, provide important information in families' preferred languages and offer different ways for them to participate.
Remember that family involvement can look different from one family to another. One family may volunteer in the classroom, while another may support learning at home or communicate regularly with the teacher.
Look for strengths and contributions rather than measuring every family by the same definition of involvement.
