What To Do:

Teachers spend a lot of time getting to know children, but parents have years of experience to share. Your child's teacher may benefit from knowing what your child loves, what helps them calm down, what they are proud of, and what situations are difficult for them.

You might share that your child loves dinosaurs, needs a few extra minutes to warm up in new situations, gets nervous during transitions, or is especially proud of doing things independently.

It can also be helpful to let the teacher know about changes at home that might affect your child's day. You don't have to share anything you aren't comfortable sharing. Simply letting a teacher know that your child may need some extra patience or support can help them respond with understanding.

Remember:
You are not bothering the teacher by sharing helpful information about your child. Your knowledge is part of the partnership.
