Your child may behave differently at home and at school. A child who talks constantly at home may be quiet in the classroom. A child who follows directions at school may have more difficulty with routines at home. These differences are normal and can give parents and teachers helpful information.
If you and your child's teacher disagree about something, start with curiosity rather than blame. Ask questions about what the teacher is seeing and share what you notice at home. Instead of focusing on who is right, focus on what might be causing the behavior and what strategies could help.
It is okay to say, “That's not something we are seeing at home. Can you tell me more about when it happens at school?” You may learn something new about your child, and the teacher may learn something from you, too.
